The BFC is proud to hold our 3rd Annual BFC Short Film Fest on October 11-15, 2023 at the new, world-class Barrymore Film Center, located in Fort Lee, NJ.  Our first two shorts fests were during COVID, so we held them on our film festival website. Not only did we have remarkable filmmakers and participation, but we had also over 70 countries tune in during the month of February to view our films. These results were incredibly encouraging.

We have announced the festival’s “Official Selections” and will complete and post the screening schedule shortly as well as guests, events and happenings. Please take a little time to see our Filmmaker Interviews from 2022 on this website, which provide a look into the filmmakers, their motivation and passion for filmmaking.

Did you know that Fort Lee, New Jersey was the birthplace of the American film industry? Film studios such as Universal, FOX, and Solax were established in Fort Lee, and many movie stars, like the Barrymores lived and worked here. The Barrymore Film Center was established by the Borough of Fort Lee and opened the 260 seat cinema and film museum, in late October 2022. The BFC is operated by the Friends of Barrymore Film Center, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.

"One of the few festivals that I really liked. And despite the fact that our film was left without an award, participation in the festival itself is a great honor. I really liked the vote of the audience. It's a good idea not to show the current result to limit artificial cheating. Restriction of voting from under one IP-address. Thanks to Charlene Trotter for interviewing me. I wish good luck and prosperity to the festival and BFC. Best regards." Borys Shusterman, Director short film "Bullshit"

"I was so grateful to have my film selected as one of the Cell Phone Cinema presentations for this inaugural year of the BFF. It was a privilege to be among the amazing talent displayed. I felt very welcomed by the BFF team and during and after the process. Everything ran smoothly." Bonita Oliver

"Overall, I enjoyed the Barrymore Film Center festival. My short (in the cellphone cinema category) won first place by the BFC judges! It was virtual, so I wasn't able to network. The people who ran the festival were very professional. I highly recommend entering in the future!" Scott Vinci

"Great experience, good communication, we are so proud of be part of this amazing Festival with our short film Sabor a ti! Thank you and we’ll see you soon!" Andrea Morey

"What a spectacular festival with well curated films from around the globe. The team was extremely cooperative and responsive in all communications. A delight to be a part of the festival and the icing on the cake was winning the Audience Favorite Award. Thank you to the audience for their Votes and the festival team for all their support. Eager to submit for 2023 as well." Vijaykumar Mirchandani

"I am so very honored to have been a part of BFC Short Film Festival's inaugural event. Their virtual program was phenomenal with multiple opportunities for exposure and participation. The final awards reveal was truly spectacular. I was at the edge of my seat from home and felt as if I was at the Academy Awards when my film was announced with a placement finish. Thank you to BFC for this opportunity! I am looking forward to your next event." Lucy Grossi

"LOVED the experience, people and heart of The Barrymore Film Center Short Film Festival! Charlene Trotter and her team are so lovely and personable and we were so honored to win an award for our comedy short, "Happily Ever Ally!" The theatre looks magnificent and due to Covid we were virtual for their first year but the festival organizers are planning an event in October 2021 to screen the winners at their beautiful venue so I can't wait! Was such a wonderful experience! I highly recommend this festival!!" Alyse Kenny

"What an incredible festival and what an honor to be selected! From the beginning the coordinators were incredibly communicative and friendly. Due to Covid we were unable to meet in person but the moment the films were available for screening on the website the festival coordinators made sure we were informed. The Barrymore Film Center social media engaged with the filmmakers social media as well which was a lovely touch that made me feel even more engaged with them and what is happening with the construction of the center. Such an amazing surprise I feel so deeply humbled by to have my film awarded 1st Place in the CellCinema Category! Since the festival Charlene has been in touch about connecting about my film, a possible event for filmmakers once the pandemic ends, etc. I would HIGHLY recommend this festival and hope to submit again on future projects and meet everyone in person. Lovely films, lovely staff, thank you for a great experience." Levi Morris

"Charlene Trotter and the team at the Barrymore Film Center put on a great virtual film festival this year. It was the center's first and the creative team did everything right. Our film, "Aunt Sadie Loved a Lady" won Audience Favorite and we were given a real "Academy Award Tribute" with a short video of the winning films and golden laurels for our films. What's best is we were able to get "Aunt Sadie..." out there into the world where hundreds of people got to see and experience our wonderful little film. Thank you to Charlene, and the rest of the BFC crew for a great experience. You all did a terrific job!" Sally Deering

"Great festival and certainly worth supporting for the efforts of the Barrymore Film Center in preserving the history of film!" Chris Milewski

"I was truly honored to participate in this festival. I am excited for the future of the Barrymore Film Center and I will continue to watch as it grows and develops as a "go to" film center and festival. Great, smart, passionate people behind the festival. I felt my work was truly valued and that they were grateful for the opportunity to show my film. For me, that is the best outcome. Looking forward to meeting everyone in person when we are able to." Julie Koehnen

"Very professional festival. Excellent service, respect for the works presented." Magnum Borini

"First off it was an honor to win the grand prize at the BFC. People at the festival are insanely sweet and helpful. You will get the opportunity to compete against other great filmmakers and winners get several opportunities for help in the future. If you are a young filmmaker like me this should be the first festival you submit to since their whole goal is to help the youth and nurture their talent with opportunities." Samu Gabor, Grand Prize Winner BFCSFF

"It was great to be part of the Barrymore Short Film Festival. Everyone was extremely nice which made for an even greater experience. Even though we didn’t win it was still an honor and a lot of fun to be included with all of the other talented artists who made it to the finals. Thank you from the whole Hitman Of LaMancha team." Best wishes, Tom Scorzone
